Jessica is a senior in high school and loves the ocean. She has been in Girl Scouts since kindergarten, and one of her favorite memories was a beach trip with her Troop. Her favorite sea creature is a pelagic red crab. Besides being a student, Jessica also enjoys acting and singing.

Shruti is a high school senior who has fostered a love for the ocean and environment at a young age. She frequents the seaside being an avid competitive beach volleyball player and has competed on her schools Ocean Science Bowl team. Shruti enjoys spending time in nature while taking hikes or walking along the shore. In her free time, she programs apps and experiments with graphic design. She also wants to pursue a career in Oceanography and or Software Development.

"Hi, my name is Kailey Powell, and I am a senior at San Benito high school. Ever since a child, I have loved to go to the beach, and it has been an extremely bonding experience not just for my family but also for the new friends that I have made. I believe that everyone should be able to have the same experiences as I have and that is why I think that being educated about how everyone can help is a great thing to do. I also think that through knowledge we can become better people and overall increase the well being of our extremely delicate ecosystems. I believe that through Shelby’s accomplishments she has set a great example that no matter how old you are, you can still achieve great things and make a big impact on everyone around you."

"Hi, I’m Carisa Powell, and I am currently a senior at San Benito high school. I came along on this project by meeting Shelby. She has taught me so many things and has inspired me and many others to reduce the number of plastic straws we use. That is just one thing I have changed since meeting her. It made me sad and shocked that someone would throw trash on the beach when they could have easily had just waited to throw it in a trash can. I want to learn everything about the ocean so I can inspire others also to make small changes that could save the sea from ultimately dying."

“Hi everyone! My name is Lauren McBride and I am a senior at Aptos High School. My love for the ocean started when I was six years old and participated in Junior Lifeguards! I love spending time at the beach and in the ocean, whether I am walking my two dogs or swimming. When I am not at the beach, you may find me bullet journaling, baking something yummy, or teaching swim lessons! This past summer, I was able to learn so much about the ocean and the need to conserve it through the Teen Conservation Leader Program at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. While participating in TCL, I heard about Jr Ocean Guardians and was inspired to do more to help our ocean. I am so excited to be a Junior Ocean Guardians Ambassador and to help younger children learn and get excited about ocean conservation!”
